Puppies like Dekker (our now 3-year-old winery dog) are soft, smooshy, sometimes rambunctious, and not sexy...but the color and flavor of our 2023 Dekker’s Nectar Cab Franc Rosé is S E X Y!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swirl this top dog around a bit – it’s a gorgeous, jeweled pale pink that is visually penetrating and intense! Now take a sniff – can you hear that small voice in your head that says, “I SMELL RED”! Honestly, if red had a smell, Dekker’s Nectar would be it! Watermelon, pomegranate, strawberry…red fruits galore! As you taste the wine, that red fruit just stays on your palate as you savor watermelon (which is so fun in a wine!), pomegranate, ripe strawberry, rhubarb (SIDE BAR: Is Rhubarb a Fruit? Or vegetable? Rhubarb is in fact, a vegetable, and part of the buckwheat family – who’da thunk?). The further the wine trails down your throat, the darker the fruits you can taste – look for dark cherry…and eventually Cherry Cola as you finish out your juicy, balanced swallow.
You don’t often see Cabernet Franc done as a Rosé – so enjoy this “best in show” canine! Dekker’s Nectar is incredibly drinkable now…and will absolutely cellar for another 5-7 years (never expected for a Rosé). By that time, we hope Dekker’s rambunctiousness calms down a bit, and he doesn’t jump on every guest!
Consider pairing Dekker’s Nectar Rosé before dinner with semi-soft cheeses like Gruyère or Gouda; an appetizer of burrata with strawberries and pistachio; Gravlax with bagels and makings; roasted red pepper dip with fresh herbs and sea salt crackers. Or with a main dish - baked penne with prosciutto and Fontina cheese, or grilled sausages with polenta.
