Name Origin: Riveter Red recognizes the women who made our country great. This blonde beauty is named Wendy the Welder (a cousin to Rosie) and was part of the Rosie the Riveter series of artwork depicting women workers during World War II. In the original version, Wendy the Welder was toasting a cheese sandwich for lunch with her blowtorch. Today, her welding gloves are still in her lap, and she’s holding a bottle of her own beautiful Cab Sauv with the same label you see on this bottle of wine (known as the Droste effect.) See…even then, Wendy knew to serve soft cheeses with this beautiful wine!!!
This fifth vintage of our consistently stellar and award-winning Riveter Red Washington Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon blend is AMAZING. She’s bigger and more tannic than our previous two vintages, and with 2 years in barrel and 2 years of bottle aging…she’ll lay down well and perk up with a quick 20-minute decant before serving. Winemaker Pam explains that the berries in 2019 were much smaller than normal, therefore increasing the juice-to-skin ratio and making the wine bolder and more full-bodied!
Riveter Red never disappoints, and always displays that balanced trifecta of qualities winemakers strive for when making a good Washington Cab Sauv: Herbs on the nose that carry through to a black pepper finish. Your nose is hit with dark red Fruits like raspberry, black cherry, and fruit leather – transitioning to more dark, luscious black fruits on the palate. And she’s rounded out by French Oak barrel qualities of chocolate, leather, and tobacco. Her beautifully balanced tannins just continue to delight as the bottle opens with dinner.
Food-wise…. there’s very little hearty food that won’t be complimented by this year’s Riveter Red! Steaks, Lamb, Ribs, grilled sausages, any saucy French foods like Coq au vin or Cassoulet. Consider Ratatouille, Mushroom Risotto, or heartier cheeses like Muenster, Gruyere, or Parmesan Crisps.
The longer you let this beauty sit in your glass, the more beautiful she gets – especially on the mid-palate and the roof of your mouth. Her gorgeous burgundy/raisin color displays great legs - and her balanced tannins will lend to at least 8 - 12 years of cellaring…if you can wait that long.....
