Name Origin - Bella - People everywhere comment on the creative names of many of our Adrice Wines. Naming this beauty Bella was easy - it truly is a BEAUTIFUL wine. And the best way to acknowledge a beautiful Italian grape varietal - is to use her native tongue. Bella means, and is...BEAUTIFUL!
We’re SO surprised that our 2021 Bella Barbera is SO DIFFERENT than her older 2020 vintage sister. Remember that Bella? Bright, juicy, tart cherry that made your mouth water with yumminess? This year’s Bella decided to return to her roots like the traditional Barbera’s of Piedmont, Italy. In the motherland, Barbera is an “everyday drinking wine” and is typically LOADED with dried herbs. In this 2021 vintage, expect a nose of oregano, rosemary, a little cherry and blackberry fruit. Refined noses might even pick up a little cured meat (or this wine might make you crave it!)
Bella is a delightful surprise on the palate. Her higher acidity delivers that lovely tart cherry in your mouth that we’re used to with Pam’s Barbera’s…but those dried herbs come back again making you crave food with this lovely wine. Well-structured and balanced, the tannins offer a medium-long dry finish.
We keep talking food – and because of Bella’s higher acidity (which is fairly rare in red wines)… Bella is a food wine! We’re dying to pair her with some spicy foods to extinguish some of the meal’s heat. Consider serving Bella with a bowl of pasta smothered in spicy Italian Arrabiata sauce. Or experiment with Tandoori Angry Bird Chicken with all those yummy spices and yogurt! Vegetarians will appreciate a glass of Bella served with roasted vegetables smothered in Zátar spice.
By herself, or with spicy foods, Adrice Wines’ 2021 Bella Barbera will transport you thousands of miles (and only a 15-hour flight from SEA) into the rolling hillsides of Piedmont in Northern Italy.
