2018 Bella - Barbera Red Wine
Barbera Red Wine
14.0% Alc. by volume
AVA: Walla Walla, WA
Name Origin - Bella - People everywhere comment on the creative names of many of our Adrice Wines. Naming this beauty Bella was easy - it truly is a BEAUTIFUL wine. And the best way to say beautiful for a beautiful Italian grape varietal - is to use her native tongue. Bella means, and is...BEAUTIFUL!
While not Italian – Winemaker Pam loves her some Italian grapes (think Montepulciano, Nebbiolo, this Barbera, and coming in 2021, a Dolcetto). You know her – she just can’t stop herself from experimenting with new grape varietals. She often gets a wild hair at the end of harvest, and all of a sudden, one more ton of Barbera shows up at our tiny doorstep and proves to be yet another challenge for this “esploratore moderno donna” of all things wine.
Barbera isn't widely grown in Washington (another reason for Pam's curiosity), and we're so pleased that some of the best characteristics of Italian Barbera made its way across the Atlantic - across the country - across Washington State - and into your glass. Medium ruby in color, you're immediately greeted with the smell of lavender, dried herbs, and citrus. On the palate, this Bella northern Italian red (medium acidity / medium tannins / medium finish on the mid-palate) bursts with cheery, blackberry, melted chocolate, and a tangy spicy-yet-sweet finish
Similar to all of our other Italian higher-acid varietals - Barbera is "Bella" with the acidity of tomato-based Italian food - specifically Pepperoni Pizza. We also want to try it with smoked meats served with roasted root vegetables, or grilled bavette (flank steak) with crumbled gorgonzola - Bellissima!
NOTE: Bells is still a baby...so we recommend laying this wine down for at least 6 more months before enjoying it. We're guessing she has a 2-year drinking window after that: Jan-2021 through Dec-2022.
Nella botte piccola c'è il vino buono = In small barrels, there's good wine.
