Name Origin: Riveter Red is the second in our series recognizing the women who made our country great.  This blonde beauty is named Wendy the Welder – and originally, she was toasting a cheese sandwich for lunch with a blowtorch.  See…even then, Wendy knew to serve soft cheeses with this beautiful wine!!!

Welcome to the third vintage of our consistently stellar and award-winning Riveter Red Washington Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Our 2017 Riveter Red is a true expression of the best of Washington’s Red Mountain, displaying a balanced trifecta of qualities winemakers strive for when making a good cab: Herbaciousness:  oregano, cedar, bell pepper, thyme and black pepper on the finish. Red and Black Fruits: berry jam, cherry, plum, blackberry, pomegranate, and cranberry. Rounded out by French Oak barrel qualities: spices, toasted pecans, vanilla, and brown sugar. Some of us felt like Jolly Rancher rode by and dropped a Blue Raspberry candy in the glass!

The longer you let this beauty sit in your glass, the oakier she gets – especially on the mid-palate and the roof of your mouth.  Her gorgeous burgundy/raisin color displays great legs - and while still a baby….she’s drinking fabulous right now.  Her balanced blend of tannins will lend to at least five years of cellaring…if you can wait that long...

When it comes to food pairings, look no further than red meats with a tich of fat to help soften the alcohol:  Prime Rib, Tri-Tip, Coq Au Vin, Bacon-wrapped Sausages.  Let the sweetness of pork riblets bathed in Kansas City Barbecue sauce balance out this rich, beautiful bold red.  Soft pungent cheeses will also pair beautifully with Riveter Red (think steak salad with gorgonzola or melt some brie cheese on top of that steak).  For our vegetarian friends, serve up a grilled vegetarian/mushroom burger smothered in cheddar with a glass of Riveter Red for an evening to be remembered!
