2019 Primitivo (750ml)
Les Collines Vineyard
AVA: Walla Walla, WA
14.5% Alc. by volume
Primitivo – a rare Italian grape - is the same grape as Zinfandel so famous in California – and both originally hailed from Croatia! Pack your bags, because Covid-19 is about over and we’re ready to travel east to taste yet another stellar single-varietal wine from Winemaker Pam!
As our journey begins – we send our first postcard to Les Collines Vineyard in Walla Walla, WA. Our wine club members love our Secondo Amore Rosé and Bare Knuckle Syrah from that Vineyard…and now we get to enjoy Primitivo from the same soil! “Love you guys – the 2019 Primitivo is beautiful! Couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks! Signed – Adrice Wines”
Primitivo means “original” or “early one” in Italian, and is known for lots of dark fruit, higher alcohol levels, lower acidity, and less boisterous tannins making it a very food-worthy wine. While Primitivo does have some universal characteristics like early ripening and dark fruit flavors, California Zinfandel tends toward a sweeter, fruitier style than Primitivo.
Note first the beautiful pale ruby color in your glass. Then smell spicy, jammy black fruit (boysenberry) alongside cinnamon and rose petals. We’ll tell you - the nose and taste of this varietal and vintage are quite different. On the palate, you’ll taste a balanced wood/supple fruit/spicy wine. Look for woody bramble, gobs of blackberry, allspice, oak, and sweet tobacco. Your tongue will light up with spiciness and fruit – especially when you pair it with Asian BBQ, or middle eastern cuisine which tends to bring out the cinnamon qualities on the nose.
Final Postcard - To: Adrice Wines' Wine Club Members – “What a trip it’s been growing our craft winery with each of you! We’re so excited to bring yet another new varietal to our tasting table to appeal to the discerning wine drinker’s palate. We hope you enjoy this beauty! Thank you all for your support…it’s wonderful having you as part of our family! Signed – Pam & Julie”
